Solar Panel Pergola in Massachusetts

This was a first for us - a pergola specifically designed to support solar panels! The overall dimensions of the pergola are 12ft wide by 44ft long, for a total solar collection area of just over 500 sq. ft and 8.1 kW of power generation. We had originally hoped to support this pergola with only six posts, but the large snow load in this area necessitated another set of posts to cut the beam spans down.

Making this pergola a little trickier is the 3:12 sloped roof, which helps angle the solar panels for more efficient collection of power. However, a sloped roof is nothing new to us, so the design went smoothly.
